What is the course content?
This applied legal practice course aims to strengthen the capacity of participants by exploring rights in real life. The course uses the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other international legal instruments to cover a range of topics relevant to the lives of persons with mental health problems and persons with intellectual disabilities, including legal capacity, liberty, community living, access to justice, education, employment, family life and political rights. The course aims to heighten participants’ awareness of mental health lawyering, and introduce them to methods of engaging in legal and policy reforms in their home jurisdictions, potentially in partnership with the Mental Disability Advocacy Center.
